Which stage are you in with your goal right now?

When we are trying to reach a goal, especially if it’s one we aren’t used to, we often want to get to our end result quickly, easily and happily.

The problem is, that is NOT the reality most of the time.

When we are trying to find the best approach to healing and pain management...

When we are trying to confront our past...

When we are trying to let go of old habits and old ways of thinking that aren’t serving us...

It’s hard.
It’s uncomfortable.
It’s unfamiliar.
It can even be painful.

And when we try to jump to thinking “I need to be there now so I can be happy,” that causes even more pain and suffering.

The true journey is often reflected by the facial expressions in this photo starting from Aaron.

Aaron: This sucks. I hate this. Am I ever going to get there?

TO:

Alan: Saying PEACE to those destructive thoughts...but not quite liking these challenges. It’s alright though, I’ll get there and keep working toward it.

TO:

Phoebe: I’m doing this for myself and my purpose. It’s hard. It’s painful. But it’s worth it. There is joy, strength and confidence in that. Hard, but glorious!

😂😂😂

Which stage are you in with your goal right now? Aaron? Alan? Or Phoebe?

Choosing Joy

Feeling joyful 100% of the time is not realistic.

We get hurt. We lose someone we love. There is physical pain.

choosing-joy.jpg

Choosing joy means we are refusing to let the hurt, pain and anger consume us to an unhealthy, destructive point.

It means we trust that whatever it is we are going through, we are going to be ok because of the God who holds our future.

It means we aren't focusing on the hurt, pain and anger to magnify it more, but maybe instead focusing on what we already have.

Does it take the hurt, pain and anger away? No...not right away at least. But it allows for our minds, hearts and souls to put our focus elsewhere that will hopefully bring positive, proactive, and healthy change to our situations.

Trying to Mask Pain Can Make it Grow

Whether it’s physical pain, mental pain, or emotional pain, trying to mask it can make THE PAIN grow.

Sometimes we mask it with medication and have this false sense of strength and overdo things that when the meds wear off, a surge of the pain hits even stronger than how it began.

Sometimes we mask it by avoiding, resisting or minimizing the pain. Ironically, this eventually also makes the pain grow.

But when we allow for the pain and feel it in a healthy way, WE are the ones that grow through a new awareness, through empowerment of owning our feelings and choices, and not being afraid to feel negative emotion.
